Leore + Nisha

January 12, 2017 by Courtney Hagen

This is our very first shoot here at Beauty & Our Beasts and it originally served as just a "practice" to test out how we wanted it to look and how difficult it would be to photograph these beautiful animals. Nisha ended up being quite cooperative and relaxed when Leore picked her up and this photograph captured Nisha's chill attitude perfectly! But that didn't last long! Thankfully we got a few pics in before she decided she was over it and wanted to wriggle herself out of Leore's arms. Nisha is actually Beth, our uber talented beauty photographer's cat so unfortunately she is not up for adoption but below you will find her super cute adoption story! Going forward, all animals showcased here will be available for adoption! But we couldn't help but want to share this beautiful photograph with you and begin the discussion! Below you will also find all the cruelty-free products I used to achieve this gorgeous emerald cat eye, inspired by Nisha's green eyes. Enjoy!!

"I found Nisha four years ago while working on a shoot in the Arts District of LA. She was a very friendly, 4 month old kitten living under a parking lot dumpster. I asked the parking lot attendant if she belonged to anyone and he told me that someone had dropped her off two weeks prior. I was heartbroken and wanted to take her home immediately, but my client didn’t want her in their car (to their defense she did smell just like the dumpster she was living under). After the job was over, I raced back to the shoot location to see if I could find her, but she was gone. I went home and devised a plan. I bought a litter box, a cat bed and all the fixings to welcome her home. I was determined that she was going to live with me, even if it took some time to find her. That night, my boyfriend and I returned to the parking lot and set out a can of food. We took a walk around the neighborhood and when we returned she was there having a feast. She’s been our baby ever since.

Nisha has been one of the best additions to my life and I feel so fortunate to have found her… twice. While I’m home all day retouching, she always has a place on my lap. Usually, she wraps her paws around my arm while I’m working and nuzzles in for an afternoon. She tends to be shy with strangers - perhaps a hazard of living on the streets, but she is one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met. She loves big hugs, belly rubs, looking out the window together (its a family activity), chasing after reflections, and cat grass. While she still loves the baby bed I bought the day we found her, Amazon boxes and fuzzy blankets come in at a good second best."    -Beth Sternbaum

Beauty & Our Beasts is a cruelty-free beauty blog featuring adoptable animals. It's a conversation starter that merges two worlds we are very passionate about, beauty and animals. It serves to change animal's lives by helping them find forever homes, bringing attention to some of the amazing animal rescues in SoCal and fighting animal cruelty by supporting brands who believe no animal should suffer in order for us to feel beautiful. Let's give a voice to these animals while celebrating the creativity of makeup.
